Golf tournament raises money for pediatric leukemia research

The Ninth Annual Monica Kreber Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Charleston Contractors Association, raised $25,000 for pediatric leukemia research at the MUSC Children’s Hospital. During the past nine years, this tournament has raised $259,000 for the hospital’s leukemia research. Dentists swap old toothbrushes to raise money for children’s dental clinic

Dr. Arlene Oldham and Dr. Al Ivester of Belle Hall Dentistry hosted a “Toothbrush Swap” to benefit the Smiles for a Lifetime Children’s Dental Clinic at Trident Technical College in North Charleston. Patients, friends and merchants in the Belle Hall Shopping Center dropped by to swap their old toothbrushes for new ones. Belle Hall Dentistry donated one dollar to the children’s clinic for every swapped toothbrush. Guests also enjoyed refreshments, raffles and silent auctions to benefit the nonprofit clinic, which provides dental care for children in need in the Charleston area. The event raised $1,000. Legal association donates to Charleston School of Law

South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association Executive Director Linda Franklin and SCTLA President Sen. Gerald Malloy presented a $5,000 check from the association’s portrait fund honoring Judge Casey Manning to Charleston School of Law Dean Richard Gershon. Each year, the SCTLA recognizes a member of the South Carolina judiciary with a portrait presented at the association’s annual convention and donates funds raised in the honoree’s name for scholarships to South Carolina law schools.

Dorchester Habitat holds annual river roast

The fifth annual Dorchester Habitat for Humanity River Roast was held recently at the Dorchester Boat Club in Summerville and raised more than $2,100 for building efforts. Piggly Wiggly sells T-shirts for charity

Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. Inc. presented a check to Crisis Ministries for $1,413.70 from the sale of T-shirts that were designed especially for the re-opening of the Meeting Street Piggly Wiggly last June. Kiawah Conservancy raises money with house tour

The Kiawah Conservancy managed the tour operation for the Coastal Living Idea House at Cassique near Kiawah Island from September to December. Volunteers for the conservancy sold tickets, welcomed guests and answered visitors’ questions about the house.
