Hospice of Charleston receives grant from ECRMC
The East Cooper Regional Medical Center, through the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, has awarded a $25,000 grant to Hospice of Charleston. The grant is for support of the Hospice Center of Charleston, an inpatient facility currently under construction on Wando Park Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. Alcoa-Mt Holly donates to Stratford High School enterprise program
The Virtual Enterprise program at Stratford High School pits high school students against the realities of payroll, marketing, distribution and daily life. Students earn credit for successfully creating and running a new enterprise. Representatives from the Alcoa-Mt Holly plant attended a class and presented a check for $14,000 from the Alcoa Foundation. Better Business Bureau awards scholarships
At the Better Business Bureaus annual banquet, four students from high schools in its 15-county service area were honored for outstanding accomplishments at their schools. The following were recipients of $1,000 college scholarships from the BBB: Anna Beck Henderson, Blythewood High School; Dwight Anthony Hudson, Garrett Academy of Technology; Katharin Suzane Powers, Lugoff-Elgin High School; and Richard Mark Jones, Wando High School. The Students of Integrity scholarship winners were determined by a panel of independent judges.
UMRC receives grant
First Citizens Foundation recently awarded the United Methodist Relief Center with a $10,000 grant to provide operational support for their Owner Occupied Rehabilitation program, which repairs, rehabilitates and replaces substandard housing for low-income families and the elderly in the rural communities of Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
Foundation helps grassroots efforts in tri-county region
Coastal Community Foundations N.E.W. Fund awards, called Neighborhoods Energized to Win, has given more than $630,000 to grassroots community groups during the past 14 years to strengthen their neighborhoods. Pictured: Representatives from 17 groups celebrate receiving grant checks totaling $44,000, which will help equip senior centers, support after-school programs, re-build playgrounds and more.
MassMutual supports the Charleston Breast Center
Nick Gavalas of MassMutual recently presented a $3,000 donation to Dr. Lisa Baron of the Charleston Breast Center on behalf of Women At Work. Because Women At Work invited Baron to speak to its members and guests during Breast Cancer Month, MassMutual decided to give the donation. Arts commission awards money to Spoleto, others
The South Carolina Arts Commission has awarded Spoleto Festival USA a $5,625 cultural tourism grant to support a new strategic partnership between the festival and Charleston Magazine. The organization plans to implement several marketing and cross-promotional efforts to attract new cultural tourists to the state. Eleven other state arts organizations were also awarded grants as a part of the commissions Cultural Tourism Initiative, including the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, the Barnwell County Arts Council, the Columbia Art Association, the Cultural Council of Georgetown County, the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium, the Metropolitan Arts Council, the Newberry Opera House, the Oconee Community Theater, the Palm Key Institute and Sculpture in the South.
