BIG AND LITTLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS GIVE AWARDS

Big and Little Brothers and Sisters recently awarded the “Wendy M. Hall Big of the Year” award to Joyce Aungst of Mount Pleasant. Others recognized were the CJ Award winners, those pairs of Big and Little Brothers and Sisters who have enjoyed four years of friendship through the program. Those recipients were Ronnii Bartles and B.J. Cason; Kimberly Chesanek and Ashley Gerhardt; Justin Dickens and David Wilson; Andrew Jordan and Kenneth Polite; and Brian King and Tyrus Goodwater. The Partner of the Year award was given to the armed forces: Charleston Air Force Base, Charleston Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Charleston Nuclear Power Training Unit, Charleston Naval Weapons Station, United States Coast Guard and the United States Army. VISION RESEARCH PROJECT APPROVED FOR STORM EYE INSTITUTE

The South Carolina Research Centers for Economic Excellence approved a $9 million vision research project at the Storm Eye Institute to establish two endowed professorship chairs in vision research. DAYCARE CENTER CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING

The Toy Box Daycare and Development Center, a full-service, family-owned facility, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Some of the center’s services include child care for infants through 5 years old, an outdoor playground, security features and age-appropriate curriculum. GIANT CEMENT PARTICIPATES IN CAREER FAIR

Giant Cement Co. employees answered students’ questions about different careers during the DuBose Middle School Career Fair. Students interacted with more than 50 professionals and learned about the education, experience and skills required for a wide variety of jobs.
