ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING

SCS Engineers hired Craig Langford as an industrial hygienist. Langford has eight years of experience in asbestos, lead-based paint and mold assessment.

Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co., a coastal consulting and civil engineering firm, promoted six of its professional staff to principals: Thomas W. Cetti, Jason J. Bryant, Lamar Mercer, Kevin Shoemaker, Charles J. Ezelle and A. Christopher Stovall.

SGM Architects Inc. announced the promotion of Peggy J. Smith and the hiring of Sara S. Lybrand, Jerry L. Traino and Christopher A. Turner. Smith joined SGM in 2001 and is now the senior business manager. Lybrand is office manager. Traino and Turner are intern architects.

General Engineering & Environmental LLC announced Christine Villarreal has joined the company as a senior scientist and project manager. She will be responsible for coastal zone permitting, storm water management, due diligence, remediation and business development.

CONSTRUCTION & CONTRACTING

Sharon Maffia joined Classic Remodeling and Construction Inc. as an accounting and executive assistant. Maffia spent the last 15 years in the shipping industry, most recently as a regional A/P operations manager. 

Beazer Homes has hired Susan Lorance as director of purchasing. Lorance previously worked for Beazer as an estimating assistant from 1999 to 2004.

FINANCE

Stephanie Spinucci, Louise Masterson and Ridge Johnson have joined Pratt-Thomas & Gumb Co. Spinucci, who joined the tax department, was formerly a staff accountant with Crow, Shields & Bailey PC in Mobile, Ala. Masterson, who joined the small business department, most recently worked with Hampton Inn and Suites in Mount Pleasant. Johnson, who joined the business valuation department, was formerly employed as a revenue officer with the Charleston County Delinquent Tax Office.

Bonnie Feng, Jenara Noel and Cindy Davis joined the audit department of Pratt-Thomas & Gumb Co. Feng was formerly employed as a staff accountant with MacLean Quality Composites LLC in West Jordan, Utah. Noel is currently working on a business administration degree with a concentration in accounting at Limestone College. Davis, a CPA, is a former sole practitioner providing accounting and consulting services.

Kirkland, Thomas, Watson & Dyches LLC hired Mike Targia, Henry Webster, Nicki Yoder, Del Wooten, Nancy Semenak, Kimberly Harden and Joe Esposito.

EDUCATION

Richard Jerue has been named president of The Art Institute of Charleston. Jerue is responsible for launching The Art Institute of Charleston, with initial offerings in culinary arts, media arts including graphic design, interior design, interactive media design and photography.

Kathleen Brophy of Mount Pleasant has been named executive director of the Trident Technical College Foundation. Brophy will be responsible for assisting TTC’s president in maintaining and expanding business and industry relationships, soliciting financial contributions and support, managing special fundraising events, cultivating volunteers, assisting with grant writing and resource development and managing the college’s foundation.

EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

Katie Redfearn and Alicia S. Khoury have joined Vista Staffing as account executives.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

Bishop Gadsden hired Jim Epper as director of dining services. Epper is the former executive chef of Fleet Landing in downtown Charleston. 

GOVERNMENT

Stephanie L. Yarbrough joined the city of Charleston Department of Economic Development as business recruitment and redevelopment manager.

NEW BUSINESS

Jerry DeWitt has opened a custom design firm named DeWitt & Associates LLC on Daniel Island.

Cathy Jenkins launched CJ Yummies, a business featuring Jenkins’ handcrafted jewelry. The jewelry is currently available online and through select retail outlets in Charleston and Atlanta.

Drs. Catherine Kister and Michael Criswell opened Premiere Eye Care PA, covering all areas of eye care and diseases of the eyes and offering comprehensive eye exams and designer eyewear. Premiere Eye Care is located at 652 Coleman Blvd. and participates in the InfantSEE program.

LovetoWork.org LLC is a new work force consulting company designed to help employers, job seekers and students become more productive. The new company is owned by Gary Crossley, former area director of the Charleston Workforce Center for the S.C. Employment Security Commission.

Watson Electrical Construction Co. LLC, founded in 1935, has opened its first office in Charleston. The location is Watson’s 12th office.

Savannah-based Coastal Empire Exteriors has opened its first Charleston location.

HEALTH CARE

Hawthorn Pharmaceuticals added Katie Stover to its sales force.

HOSPITALITY & TOURISM

Anne McAlister Bruce joined JMC Charleston as a sales representative. Bruce has 12 years experience in promoting destination management and meeting services.

Lynn Thomas is the new director of sales and marketing for Marriott Charleston.

The Ashley River Inn hired Heather Peebles as director of sales. Peebles will be responsible for repositioning the hotel within the market.

LAW

Terri Morrill Lynch has joined Clawson & Staubes LLC as an associate. Lynch practices in the area of insurance and worker’s compensation.

Richard S. Dukes, professional liability and commercial litigation attorney, has joined the Charleston office of Turner, Padget, Graham & Laney PA. Dukes’ practice focused on defending physicians, attorneys and others in professional malpractice litigation.

The Steinberg Law Firm opened a new office at 107 South Main Street in Summerville. Attorney Michael H. Murphy III will head the office.

REAL ESTATE

Recent hires by Prudential Real Estate include: Sean O’Morrow and Barbara Julius at the Mount Pleasant North office; Lindsey Tyler, Erika Perry and Patrick McKinley at the Ashley River Road office in West Ashley; Dan Harvey at the Isle of Palms office; Merritt Sumner Segars at the Folly Road office on James Island; Laura Tisdale at Clements Ferry Road office; and Patricia Allen at the Orleans Road office.

Amy Sams joined the Atlantic Island Properties’ team as the rental and property manager. The majority of Sams’ professional practice was with a large commercial real estate development company.

The I’On Group named Michael Woody as the company’s vice president of finance. He was previously director of finance for the I’On Group.

Matthew Wean joined the Mount Pleasant office of AgentOwned Realty. Wean served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1993-2003 and was stationed in Japan and South Korea.

Beach Management, the property management division of The Beach Co., announced the addition of Suzanne Holmes as portfolio manager for various retail properties. Prior to joining The Beach Co., Holmes was a property manager for Equity One in Atlanta.

RETAIL & SERVICES

Ken Felsher joined Science Applications International Corp. as a systems engineering program manager. Felscher comes to SAIC with 27 years of experience in acquisitions and support of military systems.

TECHNOLOGY

The Advanced Technology Institute promoted Caraline DiNunzio, Chuck Kramer, Susanne Place, Dolly Pelto and Mica Rowland. DiNunzio’s new role will be subcontract administrator. Kramer has more than nine years experience in manufacturing management and will serve as program manager of metals technology. Place is program administrator for the Defense Logistics Agency’s Castings for Improved Readiness Program. Pelto was promoted to program manager for the National Shipbuilding Research Program. Rowland, previously a subcontract administrator, was promoted to contracts manager.

Carolina Computer Partners announced Alex McRae has joined as senior technology consultant. Applying a decade of experience in the sales and technology field, he will increase the exposure of technology products that CCP offers.
