The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Math announced the school had 13 National Merit semifinalists, including Daniel Ward of Summerville.

Ben A. Hagood, Elizabeth W. Settle and Robert A. Kerr of Mount Pleasant’s Hagood & Kerr PA have been included in The Best Lawyers in America 2007. The journal selects lawyers based on an independent peer-reviewed survey.

Jay White of Liollio Architecture completed his National Council of Architectural Registration Board Examination and became a South Carolina-registered architect.

Liollio Architecture’s Seth Cantley and Brian Sanders obtained the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design professional designation from the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED program encourages the development of energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings. Cantley and Sanders earned this accreditation by passing an examination covering sustainable site development, water use reduction, construction waste management, indoor environmental quality, optimizing energy performance and innovation in design.

Kelly Home Care celebrated its 30th anniversary. Kelly Home Care is a specialized business unit providing in-home care services to families nationwide.

Gail Strunk attained the highest accreditation awarded by The Appraisal Foundation for Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. Fourteen appraisers in South Carolina and 500 appraisers in the U.S. made the elite group. Strunk is an appraisal instructor for Fortune Academy.

Motorola Excellence recognized Radio Communications of Charleston Inc. for demonstrating excellent customer service within a high-performance business practice using Motorola products and services.

Charleston-based attorney W. Andrew Gowder was elected to the governing council of the American Bar Association’s State and Local Government Section. Gowder has practiced law at Pratt-Thomas, Epting and Walker for 20 years.

Debbie Fourney, a metallurgist with Ithaca Materials Research Test Labs, completed her certified welding inspector certification through the American Welding Society. Fourney is qualified to perform weld-failure investigations and welder/procedure qualification.

Christa M. Dunn, a CPA with Gamble Givens and Moody LLC, received the Certified Fraud Examiner designation. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners awards this designation to professionals who meet a stringent set of criteria including character, experience and education.

Quoizel, one of the nation’s leading designers and distributors of decorative home lighting, was named Outstanding Employer of the Year in Berkeley County by the Trident Workforce Investment Board/Trident One Stop Career System.

Mike Lata, executive chef and co-owner of FIG restaurant in downtown Charleston, was invited to be one of five judges for Southern Living magazine’s fifth annual Grand Finale Cook-Off.

Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser was named United Soccer League First Division coach of the year by the league’s coaches and general managers. In his second season as head coach of the Battery, Anhaeuser led the team to a 13-8-7 record. Charleston reached the First Division semifinals in its first postseason appearance since 2003 and also reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup.

The Charleston Junior Woman’s Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary and has planned a celebration on Oct. 7 at the Renaissance Charleston Hotel to honor past and present members and officers. Former members are being sought out throughout the community.

Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina recognized Mary C. Ramsay for her lifelong advocacy for people with developmental disabilities and special needs. Ramsay will be inducted into the Goodwill Industries Hall of Fame at a gala held in her honor.

Local sculptor Nancy Langston is a featured artist in the art show Construction and Cornerstones: Architectural Elements in Contemporary Art. The show exhibits the use of architectural materials as media for sculpture and architectural interiors and exteriors as focal points for original oil paintings.

Lowcountry competitors Chris Millspaugh, Mark Creech, Angela Shaffett, Ted Ervin, Sean Smith and Steven Holly will represent the United States at the 2006 Taekwondo World Cup in Benidorm, Spain.

Melinda Legette, John Casey and Telli L. Counts graduated from The South Carolina Women’s Business Center’s CORE FOUR business-planning course. The program is a hands-on curriculum that takes entrepreneurs from a business idea to launching a successful, well-managed business.

Frank Harmon, principal of Frank Harmon Architects of Raleigh, N.C., has received an award from the South Atlantic Region of the American Institute of Architects for his design of a modern, environmentally sensitive residential property on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant.

Carletta Liddell, Donna Locker, Diana Hunter, Gloria Fox, Mary Seabrook, Eilene James and Mary Veasey completed a course in basic computer use offered in a collaborative partnership with Trident Literacy Association and the YWCA. Trident Literacy Association offers courses in basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and use of the Internet at eight sites in the tri-county area.

Sales manager Analisa Jordan of Weichert, Realtors—Dean-Kelby completed a four-day training program at the Weichert Management Academy in New Jersey. The academy is focused on building world-class real estate offices.

William Bobo Jr., a partner in the Charleston office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, has been re-elected to a two-year term on the University of South Carolina’s board of visitors. Bobo has served on the board of visitors since 2004.

The East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club presented members Everette Jones and Beverly Gabriel with Paul Harris Fellow designations. A Rotarian who contributes a gift of $1,000 or more to Rotary International’s Annual Programs Fund may become a Paul Harris Fellow. Each new fellow receives a commemorative certificate, a Paul Harris Fellow pin and a medallion.

Goalkeeper Dusty Hudock surpassed his 200th game played for the Charleston Battery soccer team. In eight seasons with the team, Hudock has 109 wins, 66 losses and 23 ties, and has recorded 74 shutouts. With 203 starts, he is the longest-serving goalkeeper in the team’s history.

Robert Bradham, manager of Gamble Givens & Moody LLC, has been awarded the Accredited in Business Valuation credential by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The credential recognizes CPAs with extensive professional experience in business valuation.

Richardson, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman attorney Beth Middleton Burke spoke and moderated at the Association of Trial Lawyers of America Trial Advocacy College on Depositions. Burke served as course advisor for the college and serves on the National College of Advocacy Board of Trustees, which oversees and manages continuing legal education provided through the association. Burke practices in the areas of medical devices and pharmaceutical drug litigation.

Ted’s Butcherblock at 334 East Bay Street in downtown Charleston celebrated its one-year anniversary in October. The locally owned and operated butcher shop and gourmet market received recognition from several local, regional and national publications, including The Post and Courier, Charleston City Paper, The Charlotte Observer, Bon Appetit and Food & Wine.of trustees.
