CONSTRUCTION & CONTRACTING

Beazer Homes hired Matt Hornberger as manager for the Station West site at the corner of Albemarle and Folly roads. Hornberger has 16 years of residential and commercial construction management experience and was previously building in Florida.

WPC Inc. hired Michael Tucker as construction services manager. Tucker is a certified engineer-in-training and has more than 13 years experience in construction engineering management.

FINANCE

Carolina First promoted R. Mark Stroud to vice president of its Citadel Mall branch. Stroud, who most recently served as branch manager, previously worked with Bank of America.

New South Mortgage promoted Shannon N. McLeod to mortgage consultant in the company’s Summerville office. Prior to joining New South, McLeod worked as a loan officer assistant and mortgage consultant at Charter One Mortgage in Myrtle Beach.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

J. Bistro Restaurant is open under new owner and Executive Chef Tamir Lehrman. Lehrman has worked for many upscale restaurants including the Ritz Carltons in Atlanta and Amelia Island, Ga.

Seel’s Fish Camp hired David Barnett as executive chef. Barnett, who previously worked at the Terrace in downtown Charleston as executive chef, has more than 13 years experience in the food and beverage industry.

HOSPITALITY & TOURISM

Kiawah Island Golf Resort promoted Brian Gerard, Stephen Youngner, Ronnie Miller and Mark Schaffe. Gerard, who previously served as head professional of The Ocean Course, is the resort’s director of golf. Younger moved from his head professional position at the resort’s Oak Point course to head professional at The Ocean Course. Miller, who previously served as head professional at the resort’s Turtle Point course, is the director of golf instruction. Schaffe moved from first assistant professional at The Ocean Course to head professional at Turtle Point.

LAW

McAngus Goudelock & Courie LLC hired J. Bennett Crites III. Crites’ practice focuses on general liability defense including automobile negligence, premises liability, products liability and commercial trucking law. Crites previously served as a law clerk to R. Markley Dennis Jr., judge of the 9th judicial circuit court of South Carolina.

Howell Linkous & Nettles LLC relocated to 106 Broad St. in downtown Charleston. The law firm, which consists of Sam Howell, Alan Linkous and Robert Nettles, concentrates its practice in municipal bonds, local government law, economic development incentives and affordable housing development.

MEDIA & MARKETING

Chip Maxham joined WCBD-TV as a meteorologist. Maxham previously worked at WXVT-TV in Greenville, Miss.

NEW BUSINESS

Harbor Financial Group LLC opened a new office on 51 State St. in downtown Charleston. The firm, founded by partners Clay Hershey and Cam Werntz, specializes in objective financial advice. Other services include complex wealth issues including retirement, investment and estate planning.

The Charleston Angler opened a new location in Mount Pleasant’s Towne Center. This location provides classes and seminars on fishing, fishing trips, tools for fishing and light and offshore tackle.

David Heronemus has opened a local branch of National Home Buyers Assistance in Summerville. NHBA is a network of investors and franchisees backed by corporate leaders in the real estate, mortgage and home building industries.

Angie Chandler opened Massage Envy in The Shoppes at Seaside Farms in Mount Pleasant. This will be the national franchise’s first location in South Carolina. Massage Envy’s corporate concept involves providing massage therapy services at affordable prices. The objective is to make its services more accessible and encourage clients to use a membership-based approach.

Harry and Kim Seel opened Seel’s Fish Camp, located off Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. The restaurant provides a casual, family-oriented atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Southern fish camps. Menu items include shrimp, oysters, catfish, crawfish and daily catches. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

NONPROFIT

The Gibbes Museum of Art hired three new staff members: Jonell Pulliam, director of education; Allison Tankersley, membership and visitor services coordinator; and Brian Kane, preparator. Prior to joining the Gibbes, Pulliam served as the acting director of education and public programs at The Studio Museum in Harlem, N.Y. Tankersley began her work at the Gibbes as an intern and most recently served as the visitor services coordinator and sales associate in the museum’s art store. Kane previously worked with the S.C. Arts Commission as a visual arts assistant.

REAL ESTATE

Dan Batten has joined NAI Batten & Moore as a brokerage associate. Batten previously served as sales manager for Reliable Medical Equipment Inc. for six years.

Burke Hammes III joined Atlantic Island Properties Inc.’s real estate sales staff. Hammes’ background includes marketing and construction.

Tricia Elliott joined Landmark South Real Estate Services as a residential sales agent.

Prudential Carolina Real Estate hired several new agents: Karen Meadows in the Ashley River Road office in West Ashley; Tara Black, Beth McAbee and Suzanne Flynn in the Mount Pleasant north office; Lauren Agostini in the Long Point Road office in Mount Pleasant; Vicki Gianoli in the Wappoo Creek office in James Island; Don Hager in the metro north office in Goose Creek; and Tori Campbell in the Trolley Road office in Summerville.

RETAIL & SERVICES

Taylor Potthast joined Glasspro Inc. as a customer service representative. Potthast’s previous experience includes several years of customer service and administration.
