SunTrust shreds 3,000 pounds to help stop identity theft

SunTrust Bank held a “Shred Day” in July to help area residents combat identity theft. More that 200 Lowcountry residents attended the event, bringing 3,000 pounds of paper to be shredded. Bank officials were on hand to discuss identity-theft issues and information on identity theft was provided. Women@Work donates $5,000 to Gavalas-Kolanko

Women@Work’s Summer Soiree raised $5,000 for the Gavalas-Kolanko Foundation. The Gavalas-Kolanko Foundation is a public charity established to help students with disabilities reach their secondary educational goals. First Palette/Palate nets $15,000 for scholarship

The Charleston Fine Art Dealer’s Association raised more than $15,000 at its first Palette/Palate Benefit in July. The money will go toward the CFADA’s Visual Arts Scholarship Fund. The benefit was an art walk through the association’s 14 galleries, with food from a variety of Charleston’s top restaurants, including: The Boathouse, Carolina’s, Charleston Grill, Circa 1886, Cintra, Cordavi, Cypress, FIG, Fish, Lana Restaurant and Bar, Oak Steakhouse and Tristan.

Local consultant offers talents to Katrina-ravaged region

Andra L. Watkins, a principal of Positus Consulting LLC, recently spent two days in the Gulfport- Biloxi, Miss., area to assist in establishing a business plan for a design and development center in the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged region. The program focused on gathering community input and fostering proactive alternatives to rebuilding challenges. The proposed center would serve 11 communities that were devastated by Katrina last year.
