Debra Pratt, of the Beach Co., earned a Certified Manager of Community Association designation from the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers.
Seabrook Island, whose golf courses have been designated as the first fully certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in South Carolina, finished ninth in the 2006 North American Bird Watching Open. It ranked as the fourth best in the Atlantic flyway region.
The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce received three Awards for Communications Excellence during the American Chamber of Commerce Executives 22nd annual convention. Tara Hulsey, the associate dean for academics and interim associate dean for faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina, was awarded the 2005 Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship. Hulsey is one of 20 nurses in executive leadership roles nationwide focused on leading the countrys health care system into the 21st century.

Conrad Festa, interim president of the College of Charleston, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford. Sanford recognized Festas service to the Palmetto State and its citizens as well as his contribution to higher education.
Kenneth P. Brannan, head of civil and environmental engineering for The Citadel, with co-author Phillip C. Wankat of Purdue University, received the 2005 American Society for Engineering Education annual conferences Overall Best Paper Award for their paper entitled Survey of First Year Programs.

The Charleston Symphony Orchestra received a grant from The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation in the amount of $115,000. The grant is for general operations for fiscal year 2007, a three-year membership in the American Symphony Orchestra League and a strategic planning review of artistic and administrative issues.
