Dr. Beth Alberto with Hearing Care of Summerville joined leading hearing care professionals at a conference on baby boomers and hearing loss in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference explored attitudes and issues surrounding hearing loss and looked at the newest high tech hearing solutions.
The Citadel School of Business Administration inducted three new members into its Business Hall of Fame and honored a fourth in its Leaders of Principle program. The new members are former President Ronald Regan, posthumously; Raymond G. Johnson Jr. and Gerald D. Ogier. The leadership award was presented to John A. McAllister Jr.

Bill Hewitt, chairman of the board for Water Missions International, received the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolinas highest civilian honor. Sen. Jim DeMint presented the award on behalf of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford at WMIs annual Water for Life Gala.
The American Bankruptcy Institute released the Preference Defense Handbook: The Circuits Compared, co-authored by Moore & Van Allen member David Wheeler. A bankruptcy and restructuring attorney in the firms Charleston office, Wheeler teamed with Chicago-based attorney Deborah Thorne of Barnes & Thornburg LLP to write the handbook.
Century 21 Properties Plus received the Cendant Mobility Government and Military Services Award, which recognizes the brokers who demonstrate the highest levels of performance servicing both transferring employees and internal property specialists, and was also awarded the Five Star Circle of Excellence Award, which recognizes brokers who have met or exceeded their individual objectives for outgoing broker-to-broker referral closings during the calendar year.
Lauren Howell, an associate with Clement, Crawford & Thornhill Inc., was chosen by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors as a recipient of the South Carolina CCIM Scholarship. This annual scholarship is offered to highly qualified, full-time real estate agents to help further their education toward gaining the CCIM designation.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the North Charleston Sewer District by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report. The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Erin T. England was honored as a Commercial Realtor of Distinction by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. This honor is awarded annually to commercial realtors operating in the Charleston market who are active members of both the CTAR and its commercial investment division, complete double the amount of required continuing education during the year, are active in both the commercial investment division and the community, and exceed income production levels on both a gross commission and quantity of transactions basis.

Mercury Awards recognize public relations programs and campaigns. Silver Wing Awards recognize outstanding tactics used in public relations. Individual awards recognize the career accomplishments of individuals and extraordinary efforts of organizations. Jamie Thomas, Charleston County Public Library, won a Silver Wing Award and a Mercury Award. Ali Gunn and Alicia Ward, Motley Rice LLC, won a Silver Wing Award of Merit and a Mercury Award of Merit. Adie Lee, Arcadia Publishing, won a Silver Wing Award of Merit and a Silver Wing Award. J. Dean Foster, ASA Public Relations, won a Silver Wing Award of Merit. Susan Kamenar, College of Charleston, was awarded a Mike Witkoski Memorial Scholarship for outstanding accomplishments in public relations study.
Kimberly Barone, an attorney with Motley Rice LLC, presented at the Protecting Our Elderly: Assessing Nursing Home Malpractice Accountability in South Carolina conference. The discussion, titled Effective Discovery in Nursing Home Litigation, covered recognizing warning signs of nursing home neglect; obtaining and reviewing medical and public records; drafting interrogatories and analyzing information; and preparing for litigation.
The South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Workforce Professionals named Theresa Gibson to the SCIAWP Hall of Fame, the chapters highest honor, for her dedication and loyalty to the association. The association also awarded the Charleston Workforce Center Lockwood One-Stop with the One-Stop of the Year award and the International One-Stop of the Year award. The veterans unit of the Charleston Workforce Center received two awards from the association: the Group Employee Performance Award and the Group Service to Veterans Award.
