The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2005 Safety Awards luncheon at the Columbia Conference Center. More than 400 companies from across South Carolina were honored for making workplace safety a priority. Brokers, owners, managers, sales associates and support staff from 32 member offices in the Weichert Carolina Broker Council celebrated 2005 production achievements at the Marriott Charlotte Executive Park in Charlotte, N.C. Weichert, Realtors—Dean-Kelby received system wide honors as an Ambassador’s Club trophy winner, one of three levels of Awards of Excellence presented by the franchise organization to top offices annually. The agency’s Dean Allen, Margaret Ostergard and Brian Whitsitt received the President’s Club Award, signaling top achievement system wide in gross commission income or units earned in 2005. Allen was also recognized as the Carolina Broker Council’s Top “Rookie” Sales Associate for the year. Rhett Butler, Cody Burg, Annalisa Jordan, Kathy Sweet and Elaine VanVoris met the annual requirements for induction into the franchise organization’s Executive Club. Sales Achievement Award certificates were also presented to a number of agents, including Barbara Bailey, Shauna Bailey, Burton Carlin, Mackenzie Clarke, Kimberly Cope, Dustin Crooks, Bryan Hammond, Laurie Kornahrens, Elesia Moore, Helen Quinn, Martin Riccio, Bart Smith, Marion Steed and Denny Wolford.

Sean Johnson, owner of Organized Bliss LLC, recently returned from the 2006 National Association of Professional Organizers Annual Conference in Boston. The annual conference offers educational opportunities for learning the latest methodologies and products on the market in the organizing field.

The following MassMutual financial services professionals qualified for the MassMutual Leaders Conference: Mark Levy, David Poulnot, Jack Heron and Bobby Cummings.

The Wilson-Sottile House restoration project has received a 2006 South Carolina Historic Preservation Honor Award.

Davis & Floyd Inc. received two Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina. These awards were for additions and renovations to McAdams Hall at Clemson University and the Ashley Phosphate Road and Interstate 26 Interchange for the state Department of Transportation.

First National Bancshares Inc., the bank holding company for First National Bank of the South, reported that it has exceeded $350 million in total assets.

The American Institute of Architects, South Carolina chapter, announced the winners of the 2006 AIA/SC Design Awards. Stephen Herlong & Associates Inc. was awarded honors for its outstanding residential designs in the categories of “Projects 5,000 Square Feet and Greater” and “Projects Less Than 5,000 Square Feet.” Gulf Stream Construction’s St. Johns High School project also received an Honor Award. The architect for the school project was Thomas and Denzinger Architects of Charleston. Additionally, the project is featured in the 2005/2006 South Carolina Architecture Magazine.

Grand Ideas Inc. was honored with a gold ADDY award in the direct marketing category for the design and marketing of an original product, the FROO Jeans koozie.

Dennis Patrick has been granted the Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow designation. The designation marks an individual’s long-term commitment to professionalism on behalf of clients, establishes the individual’s competence and business experience, marks a commitment to the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors’ code of ethics, and fosters additional professional development. Successful completion of 300 designation credits and one of LUTC’s three ethics courses, as well as membership in a local association of NAIFA, leads to attainment of the designation.

Pearce W. Fleming Jr., CEO of Summerville Medical Center, advanced to Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of 30,000 health care executives.

The coastal chapter 285 of SCORE announced its 2006 Small Business Clients of the year: Copper Penny in the for-profit category and East Cooper Meals on Wheels in the nonprofit category. Both organizations have seen substantial growth during the past 10 years with assistance from volunteer counselors from SCORE.

Charleston Women in International Trade awarded two students, Yancy Westerfield and Samir Masic, each a $1,000 scholarship to assist them in furthering their international studies.

WCSC-TV earned five Associated Press awards for excellence in television journalism. WCSC-TV received three first place AP awards in the Documentary, Health/Medical Reporting and Spot News categories. The station also earned second place in the Series category and third place in the Documentary category.

Callie’s Charleston Biscuits were voted “Best Biscuits” by the Charleston City Paper.

Tom Sweeny of MassMutual earned his certificate in special care planning and is able to help people with disabilities and other special needs and their families with their financial strategies.

Poogan’s Porch Managing Partner Brad Ball earned the distinction of “Certified Sommelier” from the Court of Master Sommeliers. Ball completed and passed a series of tests, including a written exam, tasting exam and service exam, in order to receive the certification, which is the second in a series of four parts in the process of becoming a “Master Sommelier,” the highest distinction in the wine industry.

Lisa Yaeger, senior graphics designer at Blackbaud Inc., won a Distinguished Award in the illustration category and Best of Show in overall categories at a competition sponsored by the Society for Technical Communications. The awards were based on artwork designs for Blackbaud NetCommunity and the Blackbaud Management Console.

StrategicPartner Inc., a sales force development company, was honored with its third consecutive Diamond Award at the annual conference of the Sandler Sales Institute in Baltimore, Md. The award acknowledges StrategicPartner’s outstanding performance during the previous year within the Sandler Sales Institute, a nationwide training organization dedicated to improving sales and sales management skills, and providing continuous coaching, counseling and support for sales professionals.

Jeffrey O. Anderson of R.E. Baxter & Associates Inc. has concurrently earned both the Registered Health Underwriter and the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant professional designations from The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pa. The subject matter covered by the programs includes the sale and service of health and disability insurance and employee benefit plans.

Tara Guérard of Soirée was honored by the North Carolina chapter of The International Special Events Society in the Best Nonprofit Event category for her design of the 2005 Darkness to Light Gala held in Marion Square.
