Call center marks opening with donation to MUSC
Verizon Wireless celebrated the grand opening of its North Charleston call center by donating $50,000 to the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine. The contribution will support construction of a new clinical facility in Charleston and help relieve a statewide shortage of dental professionals.
Association raises money for Ronald McDonald House
The Charleston Apartment Associations charitable committee, Charleston Cares, raised $9,261 in 2004 that will be donated to Ronald McDonald House of Charleston. The committee sold Ronald McDonald hands during its monthly meetings and to apartment communities throughout the Charleston area. It also hosted a silent auction. The Charleston Apartment Association, with nearly 200 members, has a goal to pursue professional advancement of the apartment industry throughout the tri-county area.
Wine Expo benefits TTC students, foundation
At the Trident Technical College Foundation board of trustees quarterly meeting in February, foundation Vice Chairman David Yarborough and Southern Wine and Spirits on-premise manager Hal Jones announced the 2005 Wine Expo and Vintners Dinner in January raised more than $115,000. The money will benefit TTC culinary and hospitality students, the Patrick E. Ringwald Memorial Garden at TTC and the TTC Foundation. The annual event is co-sponsored by Southern Wine and Spirits of South Carolina and TTC.
Rotary Club renovates Charleston park
In February, Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. and members of the Rotary Club of Charleston dedicated Logan Street Park in Charleston. The club donated $10,000 to fund the parks renovations. Members planted trees and ground cover, installed and painted a bench, spread mulch and laid a brick patio area as part of the clubs community service efforts.
