Humanities Foundation receives over $800,000 in grants
In response to the high demand for low-income housing and support of services for needy individuals in Charleston County, the Humanities Foundation has applied for and received from the Department of Housing and Urban Development more than $800,000 in grants.
With the many cuts in section 8 and services provided for those in need, it is very gratifying to know that we will be able to provide much needed assistance to those in need and also use $750,000 of these funds to build affordable housing, says Debby Waid, assistant director of the Humanities Foundation.
Humanities Foundation Inc. is currently developing Shady Grove Apartments off of Highway 61, in West Ashley and Laurel Hill Apartments in Port Royal, S.C. Both apartment complexes will have 72 units for elderly residents 62 and over who are living at 50% of the median area income or below.
Local physicians to open dialysis clinic in Mount Pleasant
Carolina Kidney & Hypertension Center LLC is opening an outpatient dialysis center and a central physicians office for its practice in Mount Pleasant in Spring 2005.
Mount Pleasant Dialysis Clinic is currently under construction at 10 E-Wall Street, near the Cooper River bridge, says Dr. Egie Emovon, a board certified nephrologist and member of Carolina Kidney & Hypertension Center.
Carolina Kidney & Hypertension Center, formed by Emovon and Dr. Charles Effiong, is a medical practice dedicated to providing medical care to patients with all types of kidney diseases, including kidney complications related to diabetes mellitus and hypertension. In addition to a new main office that will be located adjacent to the dialysis clinic, Carolina Kidney & Hypertension Center has offices in West Ashley, Moncks Corner and Walterboro.
The new clinic is approximately 6,000 square feet and will have 16 patient chairs, offering a variety of shift options to patients. In addition to state-of-the-art technology, the clinic will have many amenities for patients, such as individual oversized televisions, personal lockers and Internet access.
Local furnishings store relocates to Patriots Plaza in Mount Pleasant
For The House Inc. has recently relocated its store and showroom from the Plaza at East Cooper to Patriots Plaza in between Whole Foods and Carolina Lanterns.
For The House Inc., owned by Tammy Haight, has been in business for eight years and specializes in selling custom barstools, pub tables, dining furniture and lighting.
Charleston Sign & Banner moves to new facility
Charleston Sign & Banner has moved to 4200 Dorchester Rd. in North Charleston.
The new location features the only 14,000-square-foot sign manufacturing facility in the greater Charleston area.
HDR expands Carolinas presence with new Charleston office
HDR, one of the largest employee-owned architecture-engineering-consulting firms, has opened a new South Carolina office in Charleston at 2000 Sam Rittenberg Blvd.
HDR has been a part of the Carolinas business landscape since 1961, when it opened an office in Charlotte, the companys fifth. Today, HDR has offices in Charlotte, Rock Hill, Columbia and Charleston.
