Female philanthropists award grants

Women Making a Difference hosted its annual grant announcement party at the Gibbes Museum of Art. Five local organizations received $36,000. Recipients included the Humanities Foundation’s ShelterNet program, Carolina Youth Development Center’s Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, Florence Crittenton’s Family Development program, Darkness to Light, and Helping and Lending Outreach Support . 

 

Tour raises money for college

Cobblestone Walking Tours of Charleston, which recently changed its name to Bulldog Tours, raised more than $9,000 for the American College of the Building Arts and preservation of Charleston’s Old City Jail during the second annual Halloween Tour last October. The American College of the Building Arts is working to preserve the historic jail.

 

Comcast aids in dropout prevention

The Comcast Foundation provided Com­munities In Schools of the Charles­ton Area Inc. with a $2,310 grant in recog­nition of the 63 local Comcast employee volunteers and their families who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day. The grant will be used to implement drop­out prevention programs in the area.
