Santee Cooper announced three promotions. Thomas Kierspe was promoted to vice president of engineering and construction services. This role involves oversight of the $1.4 billion construction project for Cross units 3 and 4. Kierspe, a 22-year Santee Cooper veteran, currently serves as manager of generation projects. William Brown was promoted to the position of vice president of human resources management. Brown, a 27-year Santee Cooper veteran, currently serves as corporate secretary and manager of community relations. Pamela Williams was promoted to the position of corporate secretary and associate general counsel for corporate affairs. Since 2001, Williams had served as Santee Cooper associate general counsel for corporate affairs.
Kelly Carpenter has joined the Charleston County Economic Development Department as an economic development specialist. She will be responsible for managing the countys business assistance program, which focuses on the retention and expansion of Charleston County-based companies. Carpenter is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she double majored in International Studies and Spanish, in addition to receiving a minor in business.
The South Carolina Aquarium board of directors announced the appointment of Kevin Mills as the aquariums new CEO. Mills will assume his responsibilities in mid-January. Mills is currently vice president, marketing and external affairs at the St. Louis Zoo. Prior to that position, Mills developed marketing, business partnerships and sales for Cunard Line, the luxury cruise line now part of Carnival Corp. Mills holds a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of Kansas and serves as an adjunct professor of nonprofit marketing at Washington University.
Tin Dizdarevic has joined Carolinas Restaurant as executive chef. His responsibilities include managing the kitchen staff and developing creative and unique menu items. Prior to joining Carolinas, Dizdarevic served as a chef for New York Citys Craftbar, a sister restaurant to the acclaimed Craft Restaurant.
The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island recently appointed a new executive chef and a new general manager of its fine dining restaurant, the Ocean Room at The Sanctuary. Robert Wysong, the executive chef, has been with the hotel since its opening in August 2004. Before joining The Sanctuary, he was the executive chef at The Ritz Carlton Golf Resort, Naples, Fla. Alex Berentzen, the general manager, spent the past two years as the restaurant manager for Normans Restaurant in Orlando.
Laura Lovisone has joined The Boathouse on East Bay as assistant manager. Her responsibilities include scheduling all team member tasks, overseeing human resources, planning private functions, managing catered events and overseeing all financial matters. Lovisone previously served as a shift manager of High Thyme on Sullivans Island. Prior to that, she worked as a server at J Bistro Restaurant in Charleston.
Old Dominion Freight Line Inc.s Charleston service center announced Lyndsay S. Plyler as a district sales representative for the 16-door facility located at 1938 Clements Fairy Road in Wando. Plyler, a native of Trinity, N.C., attended High Point University where she earned a bachelors degree in business administration, concentrating in marketing.
Charleston RiverDogs announced the hiring of Courtney Smith to serve as the organizations sales manager and Web master. Smith previously served as the group sales representative with the Bridgeport Bluefish Baseball Club of the Independent Atlantic League. The RiverDogs also hired Mimi Walker as the clubs director of special events. Walker spent four years with the Charleston County Parks Department as a recreation program specialist in charge of special events.
The Summerville Family YMCA announced the appointment of Kimberly Taylor to the position of chief operations officer. Taylor has been the Wellness Center director since spring 2002. She will be responsible for the administration of daily business activities within the organization. Jan Parsons has become the Wellness Center director. Parsons has been the aerobics and gymnastics director for more than 17 years. Kristin Fry has been promoted to YMCA gymnastics manager. She has worked part-time for the YMCA for more than nine years. Nicole Martine is now responsible for both the personal training department and the aerobics department. Martine has worked at the YMCA since 2002.
Trident United Way announced four new staff members. Toccara Jones is the speakers and tour coordinator. She is a fourth-year psychology student at Liberty University. Susan Shealey is the short-term disaster housing coordinator and is responsible for placing local evacuees of Hurricane Katrina. Shealey is a S.C. certified administrator for Assisted Living Communities. Amy Aldeman is the early literacy coordinator for Trident United Ways Success By Six program. She previously was the communications specialist for the Jacksonville Childrens Commission in Jacksonville, Fla. Chris Friedl is Trident United Ways outreach provider services coordinator responsible for providing technical assistance and support to child care providers in the 12 county region. Friedl is formerly the membership specialist for The Girl Scouts of the Carolina Lowcountry.
Family Connection announced the addition of two new staff members. Janice Mullin is the Charleston development director, and Molly Jones is the Charleston area coordinator. Mullins professional background includes campaign management, special events management and board and volunteer training management for various organizations including Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, Teen Health Connection and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Jones has a background in the nonprofit sector and has served a number of organizations including Safe Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Spartanburg and Presbyterian Hospital.
Rebecca Marriott has been promoted within the South Carolina World Trade Center to the position of director of public relations. She formerly served the as office manager and is a graduate of the College of Charleston. In addition to managing public relations, she will be responsible for the trade centers membership and events planning.
Scott Horton, an engineer-in-training, has joined Berenyi Inc. Horton assists in the calculation, coordination and design of residential, commercial and industrial structural projects. He received a bachelors degree in civil engineering from Clemson University.
B.P. Barber & Associates Inc. announced the hiring of David Scott Wilson as the survey manager of the North Charleston office. He is a registered land surveyor with more than
10 years of surveying experience and has an associates degree in civil engineering technology from Trident Technical College. Wilson was previously employed by Cornerstone Surveying & Engineering Inc. He was also an engineering technician for more than 14 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and has an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy following six years of active duty.
Bob Dullanty has joined Applied Technology & Management Inc. as a principal engineer. He earned a bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington and brings more than 20 years of structural engineering experience to complement ATMs marine division.
Dennis Harris has joined the team of Chastain Construction Inc. as a project superintendent. Harris attended the University of Cincinnati and has devoted most of his life to the construction of commercial, industrial, residential and restoration projects with his family-owned construction company.
HLA Inc. has expanded its engineering and landscape architecture team with the addition of James C. Reigart, Meredith B. Muse, Mark E. Hill, Melissa S. Rens and Joseph E. Saunders. Reigart is a senior engineer who will be responsible for site, stormwater and utility design, and permitting projects. Muse is a landscape architect who will be working on master planning and landscape architecture projects. Hill is a civil engineer who will work with grading/drainage designs and inspections. Rens is a public relations administratior who attended the University of South Dakota and Black Hills State University. Saunders is a survey tech with a degree in social science from Florida State University.
Arizona-based Capital Consultants, an association management company, recently sold its eastern region offices to Chicora Development, a Myrtle Beach-based company. Chicora, in turn, sold the Charleston regional operation to its Charleston director of community management, Steve Peck. Pecks new company, Community Management Group, located at 349 Folly Road, presently manages 16 associations in the tri-county area.
Deb Dyer has opened a new professional coaching and image consulting practice, Coach for Change. Dyer has more than 15 years of experience in the corporate and nonprofit sectors and recently received her CTA Certified Coach designation after completing a program of study and training with Coach Training Alliance.

The shop also carries designer fabrics, one of a kind apparel designs and an assortment of accessories.
Bishop Gadsden announced the promotion of Anne Spees to director of social services and the promotion of Barry Davis to assistant director of Myers Hall. Spees received a masters degree in social work from the University of South Carolina and has more than 30 years of social work experience. Spees will oversee admissions, activities and resident services for the entire community. Davis has worked in various nursing settings for 13 years and most recently worked as a staff nurse in Bishop Gadsdens Read Cloister. His responsibilities will include care planning, documentation and assessments for the residents of the Myers Hall assisted living unit.
Vories Medical Group announced the addition of Victoria Lesesne as office coordinator. Lesesne trained at the Academy of Cosmetology in Charleston, then developed her skills in office management with more than six years of experience with hospitality firms and professional practices in the metro area.
Amy Cross has joined Buist, Byars, Pearce & Taylor LLC as controller. She will handle all the financial matters of the firm. Cross previously served as principal of her own accounting firm and provided assistance to small business clients in accounting and finance.
Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd PA announced the hiring of Carl W. Blackstone as its governmental relations advisor. Blackstone most recently served for two years as senior legislative advisor to Gov. Mark Sanford. Prior to that, he was the state governmental relations manager for the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.
Disher Hamrick & Myers announced several new hires, Rob Martin, Judy Rawlings and Cindy Poole, as real estate agents. Martin had a 20-year career in sales and marketing with Nike and Cutter & Buck. Rawlings brings more than 20 years of national and international real estate experience to the downtown office. Poole was previously with Blackbaud and was a real estate agent in Raleigh, N.C., for luxury company York, Simpson Underwood Realty.
NAI Avant announced the hiring of Robert C. King to the commercial real estate firms brokerage services group. King specializes in general brokerage, development, medical and retail sites, and general commercial buildings. He has 14 years of sales and marketing experience.
Whitney Anderson has joined Prudential Carolina Real Estates Charleston team. Anderson graduated from the College of Charleston with a bachelors degree in communication. She has work experience in television broadcasting and the medical field as an office administrator.
Michael Schultz has joined Exit Realty in the companys Mount Pleasant office. He will initially handle residential transactions for both buyers and sellers. Schultz, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., worked in the customer relationship management software industry for 15 years before becoming a real estate agent.

Beard is a marketing executive with more than 20 years of sales and management experience. Prior to joining Warrantech, Beard held sales management positions with a number of firms, including Euro RSG, American Merchandising, Custom Personnel Management and UGA/NASE.
