C. Allen Gibson Jr., a principal with Buist Moore Smythe McGee PA, has been elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Charleston Chapter of ABOTA by the national board of directors. ABOTA seeks attorneys who display skill, civility and integrity to help younger attorneys achieve a higher level of trial advocacy and to educate the public about the vital importance of jury trials.
C. Dinos Liollio and Cherie A. Liollio principals of Charleston-based Liollio Architecture, were awarded scholarships to attend Designing with Natural Stone, a program held in Verona, Italy, Sept. 28Oct. 1. The program is a continuing education course approved by the American Institute of Architects that provides a unique combination of classroom lectures, field trips to quarries and factories, and guided architectural tours in Verona, which has more than 2,000 years of stone-working tradition.
The Society for Advancement of Consulting announced a Board Approved designation for John Carroll, a Mount Pleasant businessman, in the specialty of consulting to growth companies. This signifies that Carroll has provided validated evidence from clients of exceptional performance in his area of consulting, has adhered to the ethics pledge of the organization and has performed at this level for a prolonged period. Board approvals are held by less than 5% of SAC membership.
The American Lung Association in Charleston thanks ABC Medical, Asthma & Allergy Consultants, Atlantic Respiratory Services, National Allergy & Asthma Centers, and Medi-Home Care for helping them in their effort to send compressor/nebulizer machines to ALA offices in Mississippi and Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Each machine can be used by many people with asthma in a shelter who have lost their machines in the hurricane, and when the shelters are no longer needed, they will be given to where the need is greatest
Caroline Bowman, manager of Abbott & Hill Travel, has received the 2005 Outstanding Support Award from Centurum Information Technology. Gene Smith, program manager of Centurums South Carolina Operations, presented the award to Bowman in a recent recognition ceremony.
Carolina Caterings executive chef Phil Corr was slated to appear on the CBSs The Early Show on Sept. 17. Appearing as the guest chef for the morning news programs Chef on a Shoestring culinary segment, Chef Corr was to prepare a three course Lowcountry dinner for four with a variety of Charleston favorites, such as Carolina rice cakes and Lowcountry okra.
