ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING

General Engineering & Environmental LLC announced the re-hiring of Lewis E. Hill as a project manager responsible for the company’s environmental site assessment program. Hill worked for General Engineering for seven years prior to relocating to Greenville. Hill has 16 years of experience performing environmental site asseAnastasia Shaw and Joe Schaefer. Shaw is a project manager in the company’s natural resources practice. She previously worked for the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Bureau of Water for 13 years. Schaefer, a recent graduate of The Citadel’s civil engineering program, joins the engineering department to assist in residential, commercial, industrial and utility design; site development and permitting, and specification preparation.

B. P. Barber & Associates Inc. announced the appointment of Donald J. Hamburger to the position of chief operating officer. Hamburger, a 24-year veteran of the firm, has been regional vice president in the Charleston office since 1989 and a member of the corporate board of directors since 1996. He will be responsible for the administration of the daily business activities of the corporation.

Joellen Pahs has joined Mount Pleasant-based SGM Architects Inc. as an intern architect. Pahs graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., with a degree in architecture.

Mashburn Construction Co. Inc. announced the appointment of Paul Mashburn to vice president, operations. Mashburn’s duties will include overseeing operations in Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Columbia.

LS3P Associates Ltd. announced the hiring of Julie Cooney, Sarah Mueller, James Poppell, Laura McLeod and Jeff Saunders. Cooney is a project accountant. Previously, she worked as a staff accountant for Design Collective in Maryland. Mueller is an administrative assistant and will be working for the firm’s venture studio. Poppell is an accounts payable administrator. His past work experience includes Killian, Kerstan, Patton & Kirkpatrick PA in Waynesville, N.C., and with High Mark Securities Inc. in Lakeland, Fla. McLeod is an architect for the venture studio. She previously worked for Stanley Beaman & Sears Architects. Saunders is an intern architect for the discovery studio, which specializes in health care and research facilities.

Bryan Kizer has joined B.P. Barber and Associates as a senior project manager in charge of business development. Kizer has a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering from The Citadel and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of South Carolina. Kizer was previously employed at NAVFAC, Southern Division, which is closing due to BRAC.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Jack Beabout has joined Dunhill Staffing Systems of Charleston as a sales representative in a newly formed temporary staffing services division. Beabout, a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, will sell Dunhill’s office clerical, accounting and call center services in the tri-county area.

Benefitfocus.com announced the following new hires. Scott H. Puffer has joined as product manager for eEnrollment. He was formerly employed by Blackbaud Inc. as a business systems analyst. Ryan P. Woolsey has joined as implementation and operations manager for eBilling. He was formerly employed by MCI Inc. in Ashburn, Va., as major accounts manager. Carol Diamond has joined as a corporate recruiter. She was formerly employed by Blackbaud Inc. as a corporate recruiter. Kelly Duncan has joined as an implementation consultant in the client services division. She was formerly employed by Monster Worldwide in Cary, N.C., as an interactive consultant. Melissa Bees Flynn has joined as an implementation consultant in the client services division. She was formerly employed by Capital One in Richmond, Va., as a product manager. Betina D. Musser has joined as an implementation consultant in the client services division. She was formerly employed by MeadWestvaco as a project leader. Jeromie Robert Rand has joined as software engineer in the import engineering division. He was formerly employed as a graduate assistant at Clemson University. David Murry Dabney is a software engineer in the technology development division. He was formerly employed as a programmer/database specialist for NOAA at the Hollings Marine Lab. Amy Christmas Seguer is a business analyst in the client services division. She was formerly employed as a fund liaison with Boston Financial Data Services. Terry-Lee Cosker Essig is a business analyst in the client services division. She was formerly employed as operations manager at Homestead Trust. Jacqueline Harms is an implementation consultant in the software implementation division. She was formerly employed as a contractor/consultant for Paragon IT Professionals. Michael J. Francis is a product tester in the quality assurance department. He was formerly employed as IT auditor at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati. Gregory Alan Martin is an implementation consultant in the client services division. He was formerly employed by Island Integrations in Summerville.

KMK Technologies named Beth Christopher its operations manager. She will oversee daily operations, accounting, customer service and human resources. Christopher has more than 15 years of experience in personnel recruitment, management and placement. Previously, she was the director of professional staffing for Olsten of Charleston.

Jamey Swigert has joined Fortran Communications Inc. as vice president. Building on eight years of sales, marketing and installation experience in the telecommunications industry, Swigert will oversee day-to-day operations and business development.

LAW

Clawson & Staubes LLC has hired G.P. Diminich to its legal team. Diminich concentrates in the areas of taxation, estate planning and probate, and corporate law.

Pratt-Thomas, Gumb CPAs announced that Cindy MacAulay returned to the firm after working in the litigation department of Beard Miller Company LLC in Lancaster, Penn., for the past year. MacAulay specializes in the area of divorce and family law matters in the firm’s litigation department.

Buist, Byars, Pearce & Taylor LLC has hired Michelle Emrick, Staci Moore and John G. Brown II. Emrick will serve as real estate closer in the firm’s Mount Pleasant office and will be responsible for coordinating and preparing real estate transactions and titles for the firm. Moore will serve as a real estate paralegal in the firm’s North Charleston office opening in November. Brown, who joins as a partner, will run the firm’s North Charleston office where he will concentrate his practice primarily on residential and commercial real estate closings. Before joining Buist, Byars, Pearce & Taylor, Brown practiced law for three years at his own firm in Mount Pleasant.

FINANCE

Lee Curtis has recently joined Carolina Capital Management as a financial representative in the Daniel Island office. Curtis is a graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in business administration.

Carrie Wallace has joined First National Bank of the South as assistant vice president and branch manager of the Mount Pleasant office. Wallace’s most recent position was financial specialist with Wachovia.

James H. McDaniel Sr. assumed the duties of president and CEO of Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union in Charleston, effective July 2005. Prior to returning to Heritage Trust, McDaniel served as the president and CEO of Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union in Myrtle Beach from 1996-2005.

The Bank of South Carolina promoted Fleetwood S. Hassell to executive vice president and senior lending officer and Gregory R. Shuler to senior vice president. Hassell, a founding officer of the bank, has been responsible for business development and branch administration. Shuler is a recent graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking in Washington, D.C.

Regional CPA and consulting firm WebsterRogers LLP announced the hiring of Pam Gerringer as a senior with the audit group. Gerringer graduated from Old Dominion University with a master’s of taxation degree and from Longwood College with a BSBA, accounting concentration.

NEW BUSINESS

Urban Oasis, at 813 B Savannah Highway, celebrated its official grand opening. The store specializes in imported furniture and unique home décor items.

REAL ESTATE

Ethan Pimm, Melissa H. Blakely, Gerry Smith and Rhonda Smith joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as real estate agents. Pimm, with 12 years of telecommunications experience, will work out of the Summerville office. Blakely, who previously worked for Aetna Inc. for seven years, will work out of the Mount Pleasant office. Gerry Smith has more than 25 years of sales and management experience and will work out of the Johns Island office. Rhonda Smith, who will work out of the Summerville office, was a histological technician for one year at MUSC and spent 13 years at Trident Health System.

Anchor Commercial announced the addition of Kim Hinshaw. Hinshaw specializes in tenant, landlord and buyer representation with an emphasis in the office and land markets.

Christina McDonough joined Dunes Properties of Charleston Inc. as a receptionist in the Folly Beach office. McDonough will be involved with the Folly Beach Turtle Protection Program and the Red Cross.

Jori Stenn, Meliha Hadzijahic, Gloria J. May, Chris Weis and James Chisholm have joined AgentOwned Realty’s Mount Pleasant office. Stenn has a degree from Johnson & Wales University in food service management. Hadzijahic is a recent graduate of The Citadel’s MBA program in business administration. May brings three years of experience in bookkeeping and as general manager of a homeowner’s association. Weis has a degree in business administration from the College of Charleston. Chisholm was previously a chef at a private country club and has training from the Culinary Institute of America.

MEDIA & MARKETING

Carol Cottrell and Chad Beckett announced the formation of the marketing group Cottrell and Beckett. Cottrell has more than 12 years of experience in marketing, advertising and public relations. She began her career with Kidd & Driscoll, where she managed public relations accounts. With more than seven years of experience, Beckett began his marketing career in the political arena.

Zack Hanebrink joins Charleston Marketing as marketing manager. Hanebrink’s professional experience includes a freelance graphic design business and a mortgage broker.

Jessica Crouch joined Zafari Inc. as a graphic designer. Crouch is a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, W.V., and was awarded a 2004 Gold Addy Award by the Advertising Association of Charleston, W.V.

HOSPITALITY & TOURISM/b>

Julie Gerthoffer and Charlotte Nottingham have been promoted within the Resident Inn and SpringHill Suites by Marriott Charleston Riverview. Gerthoffer is the director of sales. She previously was the senior sales manager and has been with the two Marriott hotels for four years. Nottingham is the sales manager. She previously was the sales coordinator and has been with the two Marriott hotels for 1 1/2 years.

MANUFACTURING

E.C. Livingston has been appointed vice president of North American sales and marketing for AstenJohnson, a global manufacturer of paper machine clothing, water filtration, filaments and specialty fabrics. Livingston joined the company in 1989 and has since worked as plant manager for two manufacturing facilities and as the regional business leader for sales teams in the South and West Coast regions.

EDUCATION

Writer and food consultant Marion Sullivan` has joined the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College as a culinary program specialist. Patricia Agnew has also joined the Culinary Institute of Charleston as the department head of hospitality and tourism management. Agnew’s responsibilities include teaching traditional and distance delivery courses; supervising, training and evaluating faculty; designing and developing curricula and course materials; and evaluating and advising students.

Tony Johnson has been named the new dean of The Citadel School of Education. A graduate of Western Carolina University, Johnson holds a master’s degree and post doctorate degree from the George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University. Johnson brings more than 30 years of education experience to the position.
