Marine Repair Services-Container Maintenance Corp. was presented with the “Partners in Safety Award” by Maersk Inc. for appreciation of the company’s proven safety record. The award was presented to MRS-CMC at a ceremony in Charlotte, N.C., home to the North American headquarters for Maersk Inc.

Paul Heinauer, president of Glasspro Inc., recently addressed the Charleston Association of Insurance Professionals about Glasspro’s Customers For Life strategy.

WPC Inc., an engineering, environmental and construction services firm, was named to Zweig White’s Hot Firm 2005 List of fastest-growing architecture, engineering and environmental firms. This annual list features design and environmental firms that have outperformed the economy and competitors to become leaders in their respective industries and includes firms from California to Florida. WPC experienced a 156% growth rate from 2001 to 2004. Dollar growth and percentage growth were weighted equally to give both small and large firms an opportunity to make the list.

The Trident Workforce Investment Board honored James Jones, Trident Health System vice president human resources, with the 2004-2005 TWIB Community Leadership Award.

The Citadel has been named one of the nation’s 25 hottest colleges. As the “Hottest Military School,” The Citadel was featured in the Newsweek issue in August. The school will also be featured in the Kaplan College Guide.

Gary G. Durante, senior program manager with Scientific Research Corp., was recently recognized in the National Register of Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals. Durante is a graduate of The Citadel and is currently pursuing his doctorate in business with a concentration in leadership, management and ethics.

The Child and Family Development Center on the Navy base in North Charleston and Berkeley Elementary School in Moncks Corner have earned national accreditation for their early childhood programs. Child and Family Development Center’s Early Head Start and Charleston County School District classrooms, and the Berkeley Elementary School’s K-4 and K-5 classrooms achieved the accreditation. Among the criteria for achieving accreditation are safe environments for children, age-appropriate curricula, beneficial interactions between staff and parents and between staff and children, and high quality of staff.

Catherine “Kitty” Fahey of Wordsworth Writing & Editing and C.F. Evans & Co., a general contracting firm in Orangeburg, S.C., won a 2004 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in the category of One to Two Person-Produced Newsletters.

Schmitt Walker Architects announced that it has received seven AURORA Awards in the annual design awards program sponsored by the Southeast Builders Conference. The Brays Island Fitness Center, Brays Island Plantation, Sheldon, S.C., was recognized as Best Special Amenity Recreational Facility. The Brays Island Golf Club, Brays Island Plantation, Sheldon, S.C., was recognized as Best Country Club Recreational Facility. The Club Cottage show house on Daniel Island was recognized as Best Detached Single Family Home in the $2 million-$3 million price range. A Private Residence, Edisto Island, S.C., was recognized as Best Custom Home One-of-a-Kind in the $2 million-$3 million price range. The same Private Residence, Edisto Island, S.C., was recognized for Best Bathroom design for a home in the $2 million-$3 million price range. One Vendue Range, Charleston, was recognized as Best Residential Development Under 100 acres. One Vendue Range, Charleston, was also recognized as Best of State for South Carolina in 2005.

Dan Simon, a real estate agent with Prudential Carolina Real Estate’s Folly Road office, has earned the Accredited Buyer Representative designation. The designation is awarded to real estate practitioners by the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council of the National Association of Realtors.

Baker Consulting LLC, a regional reseller and custom developer of CRM software, announced that software consultant Kevin Calvino has earned his MAS 500 certification and Ken Newhouse, systems consultant, has obtained his JobOps certification.

ThinkTEC, an initiative of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, received a $250,000 grant from the South Carolina Department of Commerce. The grant will assist in plans for overseeing expansion of FastTrac into a statewide program.

Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum selected Rawle Murdy Associates as its agency of record to provide marketing and communications services.
