David Kent attended the National Association of Exclusive Buyer Agents 10th Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla. Kent has been a member of the association for seven years. He is a first exclusive buyer’s agent with The Real Buyer’s Agent in Mount Pleasant.

 

Dr. Lewis Gregory has completed the requirements for maintenance of certification in general pediatrics. This certification process is designed to evaluate, on a continual basis, the general competencies deemed necessary for pediatricians to deliver quality care with an emphasis on continual learning and practice improvement.

 

Harold E. Trask and Roy A. Howell III, partners in the firm of Trask & Howell LLC, are featured in the 2005-2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. This marks the 10th year Trask has been included and the first for Howell. Their firm specializes in workers’ compensation defense.

 

Three Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough attorneys are featured in The Best Lawyers in America. Wade Logan was honored for his work in personal injury litigation, Jack Smith was recognized for his environmental law practice and John von Lehe was recognized for his work in tax law. Logan was honored for the second year, Smith for the seventh year and von Lehe for the ninth year.

 

Motley Rice LLC has joined the executive advisory board for the International Pleural Mesothelioma Program, which is dedicated to research and treatment of mesothelioma, a form of cancer most often caused by asbestos exposure.

 

Margaret Seidler of Seidler & Associates, a consulting and training firm, was a presenter at the Polarity Management/Real Time Strategic Change Conference in Monterrey, Mexico. Seidler shared her newly developed leader feedback survey approach based on 13 key leadership polarities.

 

Crisis Ministries received a Health Care for the Homeless Grant from the Bureau of Primary Health Care of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach to delivering care to homeless individuals, combining street outreach with integrated systems of primary care, mental health and substance abuse services, case management and client advocacy.

 

MAU Inc., a full-service provider of human resource, staffing, recruiting and outsourcing services, received the 2003-2004 Award of Merit for safety performance from Raffles Insurance Ltd. The award is given to companies in the top 20% of Raffles’ safety performance evaluation, which includes an examination of a company’s safety policies and procedures such as risk control, compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, safety training and number of accidents per year.

 

RiverTowne Country Club’s 18-hole golf course was recognized as the 2004 South Carolina Course of the Year by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association. Award criteria include exceptional course quality, exceptional management quality, outstanding contribution to its community, and significant contribution to promotion of the game. The award will be presented to RiverTowne on Feb. 11 during the National Golf Course Owners Association’s Solutions Summit in Orlando, Fla.

 

Chastain Construction Inc. has been ranked No. 174 in Qualified Remodeler magazine’s Top 500 Remodelers 2004. The annual listing recognizes remodeling firms in six criteria, including annual sales volume, number of years in ­business, association membership, certified employees on staff, industry awards and community service. This is the fifth consecutive year Chastain Construction has achieved this honor.

 

For the second year in a row, the Wentworth Mansion has earned the AAA Five Diamond designation. It is the only hotel in Charleston and one of two in the state to claim this honor. And for the fifth year in a row, Circa 1886, Wentworth Mansion’s on-site restaurant, received the Four Diamond rating.

 

Joshua Caplea of Liollio Architecture has earned his professional architecture license for the state of South Carolina. He has six years of experience working on comprehensive health care, educational, retail and industrial projects in Ohio and South Carolina. He has been with Liollio since August 2003.

 

Kimberly Mc­Carty, a home loan consultant with the National Builder Division of Countrywide Home Loans Inc., is certified as a countrywide certified builder representative. McCarty completed a series of specialized courses, including construction to permanent financing, builder pricing, project approval and managing builder business.

 

Scott Wells of New England Financial/Carolina Capital Management has received the Advanced Toastmaster Gold award for participation in the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Program. 

 

Woodlands Resort & Inn in Summerville was ranked No. 5 in the small hotels, resorts and inns category in the Zagat 2005 Top U.S. Hotels, Resorts & Spa Guide. The category includes small hotels with less than 100 rooms.

 

Barbara Franklin, owner of Franklin & Associates Inc., was named among the top 100 long-term care specialists in the nation at the annual National Long-Term Care Insurance Producers Summit in San Francisco. The award recognizes the nation’s leading specialists and is presented by Sales Strategies magazine. Franklin was one of two long-term care specialists in South Carolina to receive the award.

 

Six attorneys from Motley Rice LLC presented on legal topics at recent national conferences. Ron L. Motley, Joseph F. Rice, Ann K. Ritter and Jeffrey Thompson were presenters at the Mass Torts Made Perfect Seminar last November in Las Vegas. Motley and Ritter co-presented on multidistrict litigation and how it relates to the 9/11 Families United to Bankrupt Terrorism case. Rice’s presentation, “The Art of Negotiating,” addressed negotiating in a cooperative manner and how to use intangibles and different interest to create value. Thompson discussed the various aspects of manganese exposure, manganism and welding rod litigation. Ritter also served on a Vioxx litigation panel discussion. Cindi Anne Solomon, a senior associate in the firm’s medical practice group, presented at the Mealey’s Vioxx Litigation Conference in Pasadena, Calif. She discussed theories of liability. Kevin R. Dean spoke at the Attorney Information Exchange Group Conference on Ford door latch handle defects and use of case management orders.

 

Wendy Beall and Joanne Osbon, both with Care For Life, have received designations as geriatric care managers.

 

The South Carolina World Trade Center announced the 2004 World Trader of the Year Award winner at its annual banquet. The winner of the small category (fewer that 500 employees) was Garden Zone LLC, which manufactures wire fencing and lawn and garden border products. The winner of the large category (more than 500 employees) is Harsco Track Technologies, providers of railroad track maintenance and construction worldwide.

 

PortCharleston magazine, the South Carolina State Ports Authority’s bimonthly publication, received the American Association of Port Authorities’ Award of Excellence, which was announced at the 93rd annual AAPA convention in Long Beach, Calif. The Ports Authority also won an AAPA Award of Merit for its ad campaign “We’ve Got You Covered.”

 

Jason Stubbings, a financial consultant with the Charleston branch of A.G. Edwards, has earned the title of retirement planning consultant after completing training through the College for Financial Planning.
