Mount Pleasant-based Skamper Industries’ Skamper-Ramp water rescue device for pets was featured on ABC’s Good Morning America on June 7 as one of the top new pet safety products in a segment hosted by nationally renowned veterinarian and author Dr. Marty Becker. In April, Skamper-Ramp was selected as one of the “hot new pet products of 2005” by Dr. Debbye Turner, DVM for CBS’ The Early Show.

The American Bankers Association Education Foundation honored the South Carolina Bankers Association and its Young Bankers Division for providing outstanding financial education to thousands of students and adults throughout South Carolina. The Association received the 2005 Personal Economics Program Award of Excellence. South Carolina’s Young Bankers earned this distinction by sharing their financial expertise with more than 82,300 consumers of all ages during 2,622 presentations.

Richard D. Elliott, president and owner of Maverick Southern Kitchens, will chair the American Heart Association Ninth Annual Art & Wine Gala and Auction presented by Trident Health System Heart and Vascular Institute on February 4, 2006. Peter Wertimer, CEO of Advertising Service Agency, will serve as vice-chair. The event will host more than 700 leaders from Charleston’s medical, business and social communities at Charleston Place to raise funds to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease.

For the sixth consecutive year, the city of Charleston was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The association is a nonprofit professional association serving 14,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. This award recognizes the 2005 budget presentation book using guidelines that assess its usefulness as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.

Bill Roettger has been awarded the Certified Residential Specialist designation by the Council of Residential Specialists, the largest nonprofit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. Realtors who receive the CRS Designation have completed advanced courses and have demonstrated professional expertise in the field of residential real estate.

NEC Unified Solutions, a leader in converged voice and data communications solutions announced the addition of Teleco Charleston to their list of Authorized NEC Resellers. Meeting NEC’s certification and accreditation standards, Teleco can now provide businesses throughout the Greater Charleston Area with everything from smaller voice systems to integrated solutions for the enterprise.

Classic Remodeling & Construction was awarded the State Remodeler of the Year at the 2005 Chrysalis Awards. Bob Fleming, the owner, accepted the award. In addition, the company was awarded the Best Bath Remodel over $50,000 and were co-winners in the category for Best Deck/Porch. The Chrysalis Awards honor the finest renovation and remodeling projects throughout the country.

Donna St. Claire recently completed Phase III of her training for Dale Carnegie & Associates Inc. in Atlanta, Ga., to become a certified Dale Carnegie course instructor. She has taken more than 400 hours of classroom training in order to achieve this level of proficiency. St. Claire, a training consultant and performance coach with Dale Carnegie of South Carolina, was also recently promoted to area supervisor.

Trio Solutions Inc. proudly recognizes Matt Pocock for his completion of a summer internship. Pocock, a rising senior at Clemson University studying business marketing, started working with the company in early June and has been assigned to help with a variety of client-related projects in the areas of Web development, public relations and marketing.

Allen Gibson Jr., a principal in the law firm of Buist Moore Smythe McGee PA, has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2005 edition of The International Who’s Who of Construction Lawyers. The publication assists construction owners, contractors and developers in selecting appropriate, qualified legal counsel for their construction project needs.

Zande-Jon Guerry Taylor, PE Inc., a planning, engineering and environmental consulting firm, has been chosen by the city of Isle of Palms to plan, permit and design a new bulkhead for the City of Isle of Palms Marina. The new bulkhead will be constructed along the city’s property from the Dewee’s Island Boat Landing to the Intracoastal Waterway.
