HOSPITALITY & TOURISM

Wild Dunes Resort appointed Jurgen Hummel as general manager. Hummel has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, most recently as director of food and beverage for Wild Dunes Resort. In addition, Frank Fredericks was promoted to vice president of sales and marketing. Fredericks has been the director of sales and marketing for the past three years.

NEW BUSINESS

STG Inc., a provider of information technology, technical security, engineering and scientific services support to the government and military, opened a new office in North Charleston.

After working in public relations and marketing for local names like MOO ROO handbags and Seacoast Church, Rebecca Andrews and Stephanie White started Lowcountry Communications, a full-scale marketing, public relations and event planning company.

Jeremy Tunstill and Fitz Coker opened a Quiznos on Folly Road in James Island. Tunstill most recently was a writer for the Beaufort County and Charleston County school districts. Coker previously operated a charter fishing company in Key West, Fla.

FINANCIAL

Matthew D. Pardieck joined Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He has been working in financial services for the past 10 years.

Synovus Mortgage Corp. added Steven M. Barry to its mortgage loan department as loan officer. Synovus Mortgage Corp. is affiliated with The National Bank of South Carolina. Barry has worked as a financial services manager, advertising executive, musician and deejay.

Chuck Jones was named district sales manager for Mutual of Omaha in the Charleston area for Southeast Atlantic Division Office. He will provide product and field training to the company’s sales representatives.

Andrea Stewart, Nora Fitzpatrick, Jessica Morgan and Heather Bingham joined Pratt-Thomas Gumb and Co.’s Small Business Consulting Group. Stewart formerly was with Hospitality Management Group Inc. Morgan previously was an office manager with Carolina Consulting Engineers Inc. Bingham has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the College of Charleston.

ARCHITECTURE, CONSTRUCTION, ENGINEERING

Mashburn Construction Co. Inc. hired Kenneth Tucker as a field engineer. Previously, Tucker was an assistant production manager for The Muhler Co. David Teague was promoted to project manager. Teague joined the company as a site manager in 2004.

Julie Nelson joined Goff D’Antonio Associates as an intern architect. Nelson graduated from Syracuse School of Architecture in 2003 and has two years of professional experience.

REAL ESTATE

Jeanne O’Donnell, Roberto P. Puig and Art Martin joined the Mount Pleasant office of AgentOwned Realty. O’Donnell previously taught English and social studies for 20 years in New York and Pennsylvania. Martin is the previous owner of Art’s Bar and Grill and Art’s Eastside Bar and Grill.

Coldwell Banker Coastal Properties hired new real estate agents Scott Latham, Pamela Lightfoot and Gerry Caffrey Jr. Latham previously worked at MasTec North America Inc. Lightfoot, who is based in the Summerville office, has worked as a bookkeeper for a realty company in Florida and as resident property manager for an apartment complex. Caffrey, also based in the Summerville office, previously worked for Merck & Co. Inc. in New Jersey.

Shavonna N. Coakley joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as a Realtor working in the Metro North office on Rivers Avenue. Coakley was a third-grade teacher in the Charleston County School District.

Dick Hargett, a real estate agent with Beachside Real Estate, has relocated to the company’s new office in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. He has been with the company’s Isle of Palms office since 1999. Barbara Barnes, broker associate, also moved to the Towne Centre location. She has 27 years of experience in Charleston area real estate.

MEDIA & MARKETING

Cindy Miller was promoted to marketing manager, representing Departure Media’s advertising display program at the Charleston International Airport. Miller has been with Departure Media since 2000 as regional operations manager.

Brandon Dawson joined VarnerMiller, an interactive training and communications company, as a multimedia specialist. He has worked with professional film and television organizations in Atlanta and Los Angeles.

CULINARY

Chris Dawson assumed the role of general manager at Fish Restaurant. Dawson previously worked as a private consultant with Fortune 500 companies.

Erik Koster is the banquet captain for the William Aiken House. He has experience with the Peninsula Grill and will assist in overseeing the production of events at the William Aiken House, including the set up and break down as well as the staffing.

EVENT PLANNING

Adrienne Althen joined Patrick Properties Events as sales manager responsible for booking weddings and social events at the William Aiken House. She previously was with Zinc Bistro and Bar as special events manager.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce hired Quince E. Cody as president/chief executive officer. He has served in an interim capacity since January 2005.

LAW

Buist Moore Smythe McGee PA hired Graeme Philp. He will practice business, tax, trusts and estate planning, and tax-exempt organizations.

Lydia P. Cowan has joined Krawcheck & Davidson LLC as an associate. Her practice will focus on real estate transactions and estate planning.

EDUCATION

Carolyn Hopkins has been named vice president for Finance and Administration at Trident Technical College. Hopkins has worked at TTC for 17 years and most recently served as assistant vice president for Business Operations. Prior to joining TTC, she worked for 18 years in the fields of accounting, management and marketing.

Robert Shirley, Ph.D, the retired head of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, is the new Head of Charleston Collegiate School. Jason Kreutner will fill the position of Dean of Students, college counselor and History teacher at Charleston Collegiate School. He comes from Porter-Gaud School where he served as the Upper School Dean and chair of the Department of History. Colleen Tully will be the director of the Learning Support Center for Lower, Middle and Upper School students at Charleston Collegiate School. Tully was the coordinator of tutoring at Life Management Center for three years.

TECHNOLOGY

Shelby Systems Inc. hired Jerry Foster as sales representative for the Charleston area. Shelby Systems supplies management software for churches, denominational headquarters and faith-based organizations. Anne Conley is sales manager for the data enrichment services team. She has 13 years experience in sales and marketing and previously was vice president of business development for iLearn Solutions LLC in Andover, Mass. Kirk Sadler joined the staff as product line manager. Previously, he was director of product management for Extensis in Portland, Ore.

Blackbaud Inc. hired several new employees. Bob Boyles is product line manager, Internet solutions. He was most recently director of interactive marketing for America Online Inc. Tui Allen is engagement manager. For the past five years, Allen was manager at Capgemini, most recently working on a project for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. Christie Lanning moved into the role of product support team manager, overseeing one of seven teams in the company’s call center operation. She has been with Blackbaud for more than 14 years. Charles Rhyne is manager of the technical support team. He has been with the company for seven years, serving as senior support specialist, technical support analyst and senior technical support engineer. John Young joined the company as program manager for Blackbaud NetCommunity. He most recently was managing partner for Paragon Group LLC. Paul Butler is manager of data center operations. He has 12 years of IT experience, spending the past five years as a senior IT manager at United Parcel Service in Atlanta. Gary McManus joined Blackbaud as program manager, project management office. McManus has more than 20 years of management experience, most recently serving as practice manager, consulting services for Lawson Software. Zia Khan is resource manager. For the past seven years, he worked for PeopleSoft Inc. Lisa Evans is senior project manager. She has almost 10 years of management experience and started her own business in 2003. She previously worked for Microsoft Corp. and McKessonHBOC. Suzan LoCascio is accounting manager. Previously, she worked with C.B. Richard Ellis in Greenville, S.C. Kirby Burkholder was promoted to software development manager-production. He joined the company in 2001 as senior software engineer. James Poole moved into the role of software design manager-core products. Poole has been a software architect with the company for more than 10 years. Jean Allen joined Blackbaud as purchasing manager. She spent the past six years at South Carolina Federal Credit Union. Saralee Davis is Canada country manager. She previously was director of emerging technologies and channel sales for Resolution EBS in Austin, Texas. Jodi Davidson joined the staff as senior project manager. Previously, Davidson spent five years with BlueCube Software.

David J. Myers joins Teleco as a Level 2 service engineer. He has 25 years of telecommunications experience, including service with Northern Telecom, AT&T, Rolm and BellSouth. Also joining the technical team is Brian Sanborn as a structured wire technician for voice and data cabling projects. He has 10 years of telecommunication and data network experience.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Kevin D. Young assumed sole ownership of Coastal Driver Leasing, a Charleston-based temp-to-hire staffing agency specializing in the placement of commercial and non-commercial drivers. Young has been in the staffing industry for more than seven years and previously served as president of Charleston Staffing.

AUTOMOTIVE

Samantha Prater and Dale Hoover recently joined Glasspro Inc. Prater is a customer service representative in the company’s call center. She will be responsible for processing customer claims and handling auto glass repair and replacement orders, and customer follow-up. Hoover is a branch manager for the company’s Mount Pleasant auto glass repair center. He will be responsible for supervising employees and managing daily operations.

HEALTH CARE

Susan Sullivan was appointed to the position of executive director of Roper St. Francis Foundation, effective Aug. 1. Sullivan has served as chief operating officer of the RSF Foundation since May 2004, while also a senior consultant with Corporate DevelopMint, a Charleston-based fundraising and strategic planning firm.

Dr. Caton joined the Palmetto Primary Care Physicians location in Hanahan. He was previously the physician at their Montague Avenue Office.

Dr. Amy Black has joined the Palmetto Primary Care Physicians location in Summerville. She previously taught Biological Sciences at Trident Technical College for 6 years.

Lowcountry Medial Associates added Valerie Furman to its marketing department. Furman had worked in the radiology department since April 2002. In her new role, Furman will be responsible for marketing LMA’s expanding central laboratory services and radiology services to referring physicians.

NON PROFIT

Mary Beth Dacey was named executive director of the Life Management Center. LifeManagement is a nonprofit organization that provides tutoring, coaching and other services for individuals and families who face the challenges of attention deficit and learning issues. Dacey joined LMC in October 1997 and has served various positions including program director, development director, learning specialist and consultant.

Gina Wurst, Lauri Lechner and Mary Taylor have joined the Historic Charleston Foundation. Wurst is the associate director of development. She brings more than 10 years of experience in fund- raising, public relations, special events and communications to the foundation from organizations including the American Marketing Association Foundation in Charleston and the Atlanta History Center. Lechner returns to the foundation as development coordinator, having served previously as assistant house museums administrator. She brings knowledge of Charleston’s history and historic sites from her experience at Drayton Hall, Boone Hall Plantation and the National Park Service’s Fort Sumter National Monument. Taylor joins the foundation as assistant house museums administrator at the Nathaniel Russell House and the Aiken-Rhett House. A graduate of the College of Charleston with a B.A. in history, Taylor has experience interpreting historic houses at Drayton Hall and at the Adam Thoroughgood House in Virginia.

FOOD & DRINK

Crew Carolina LLC has promoted Jason Davidson and Tim Lavish. Davidson will be director of purchasing. His responsibilities include negotiating, maintaining and managing contracts with purveyors and purchasing for all Crew entities; overseeing and managing menus, pricing and new item edits; managing charitable contributions; and managing production, editing and research for Crew Carolina’s first cook book project due out in late 2005. Lavish will be the multi-site manager. His responsibilities include serving as a floating general manager to all Crew Carolina restaurants, managing operations at each site as well as overseeing operations at Carolina Catering.
