LOCAL COMPANY RECEIVES EXCELLENCE AWARD

The BootJack Boot and Clothing Co. received the 2004 Hamilton Carhartt Retailer of Excellence Award. This award is given annually for superior Carhartt product presentation, service and creativity in advertising, as well as for community involvement. Founded in 1977, The BootJack Inc. provides the Lowcountry with footwear, clothing and accessories for the active worker and outdoor enthusiast, as well as western boots and clothing. The award was presented April 28 at the BootJack’s North Charleston location. TRIDENT ONE-STOP CAREER CENTER HONORED The Trident One-Stop Career Center was selected as the 2004 One-Stop of the Year by the South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Workforce Professionals. The IAWP selected the Trident One-Stop Career based on its commitment to value-added public-private partnership programs, such as the Trident Health System Community Healthcare Training program, the Lowcountry Manufacturers Council certification training program and the CARTA discount bus pass program. The award was presented at the IAWP annual conference in Myrtle Beach on May 20. PUB CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING

McGuire’s Irish Pub, located at 127 W. Richardson Ave., Summerville, celebrated its opening recently with a ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by Mayor Berlin G. Myers, of Summerville. Owners David and Jackie Kroth provide a dining facility with outdoor seating on a 2-story piazza and a smoking area. Built in 1860, the restaurant claims to have the longest bar in the tri-county area at a length of 70 feet.
