Howard Martin joined MeadWestvacos Kraft Division as production manager for the North Charleston mill. He is responsible for safety, regulatory compliance, product quality, production tonnage and cost management. Martin has more than 29 years of experience within the paper industry. Most recently, he was production manager at Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. in Stevenson, Ala.
NEW BUSINESS
Michael and Roberta Lantz opened LifeQuest Express, a division of LifeQuest Health and Wellness. The new location is in the Trident Medical Plaza building on Medical Plaza Drive in North Charleston. Michael has worked as a physical therapist, and Roberta has a registered nursing degree.
EDUCATION
The College of Charleston named David F. L. Bernthal program director of its certified financial planner certificate education program at its North Campus. Bernthal will schedule and manage the programs faculty and academic content and recruit new students. He will also teach insurance planning and estate planning. Bernthal is president and owner of Bernthal School LLC, which provides continuing education for financial service professionals.
ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION
Rob Crawford was promoted to work in sales and business development for Cita-del Enterprises Inc. He has been with the remodeling company for three years as a carpenter.
Stantec Consulting Services Inc. hired Richard L. Wooten Jr. as survey manager and key contact for all survey/geomatics operations. He has 11 years of experience in survey management and practice, including land development surveying, construction surveying, boundary and topographic surveys, control surveying and transportation surveying.
Southcoast Builders LLC promoted Gene Jones to vice president of the company. Jones has been with Southcoast Builders since April 1998 as project manager.
PRINTING
C. Michael Ledford joined A & E Digital Printing as head of the graphics department. Ledford has a background in national package design with Wilton Connor Packaging, Gromark Communications and T-Metrics. Hope Wright, another graphic artist, also joined the staff. Wright specializes in art reproduction, design and photo restoration. Patrick Brown is a third new staff member. Having interned at A & E for three years, he recently graduated from Clemson University with a degree in graphic communication.
ART GALLERIES
Karin Olah was appointed director of the Eva Carter Gallery. Olah previously managed a textile studio in New York City. For the past two years, She has worked for Artist & Craftsman Supply.
LEGAL
Young, Clement, Rivers LLP hired attorney Jeffrey J. Wiseman as an associate in the Charleston office. Wiseman earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2002. He will practice commercial litigation, insurance coverage and products liability.
Tatum Partners added Michael Rupe to its Charleston practice. He will provide general and financial management consulting to South Carolina clients engaged in information technology, banking, specialty chemicals, energy resources, engineering, pulp and paper, agribusiness, distribution, industrial waste processing, manufacturing, construction, retail groceries and textiles.

Charleston County First Steps named James Ella Collins executive director. Previously, Collins served as program director and interim executive director with Charleston County First Steps.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce hired two staff members: Chris Hayes and Lauren Cox. Hayes is the research coordinator in the Center for Business Research, providing economic and demographic information on the Charleston region to chamber members. Cox is the membership development assistant. Previously, Hayes was employed by GTECH Corp. in Austin. Most recently, Cox was employed by Cox Communications/ MMT Sales of Atlanta as a media sales assistant.
TECHNOLOGY
Ulanji Inc. named Jeffrey Brooks chief executive officer in charge of the overall operation and future direction of the company. Ulanji is a Summerville-based provider of advanced Internet and IP solutions. Previously, Brooks was with IBIS Networks.
Susan Risher joined Teleco, a voice and data services provider, as controller. She has more than 14 years of financial and operations experience, most recently with CeDe Candy and Swizzles Matlow, both in Charleston. Gracie Russell is the new vice president of sales. She spent 14 years with AT&T and, most recently, was vice president of sales for BookSurge LLC.
Brad Zaba was hired as sales account manager for Systems and Services LLC. Zaba has several years of sales and marketing experience in the technology industry, most recently with South Carolina Net Inc. in Columbia.
ICF Consulting promoted Jonathan H. Brown to vice president. He joined ICF Consulting in 2001 and has 10 years of experience working on all aspects of software development for companies, including Sun Microsystems. ICF Consulting is a management, technology and policy-consulting firm.
MEDIA & MARKETING
WCBD-TV News 2 promoted Mike Phillips from news producer to executive news producer. He joined WCBD-TV in June 2002 as a morning news producer.
Brett Daniels joined Charleston Marketing as operations manager. Previously, Daniels was marketing manager with Daniels Equipment Co. LLC.
Gini Beyer joined the Charleston Regional Business Journal as editorial supplement assistant, overseeing lists and collections. Previously, she worked in the Communication Call Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is a 2003 graduate of the College of Charleston.
HEALTH CARE
Roper St. Francis Healthcare added four employees to the corporate communications and marketing departments. Patricia G. Crimminger is director of corporate communications, responsible for the health systems messaging. Previously, Crimminger was public information officer for the Charleston County School District. Margaret Mullins is media relations manager. Mullins most recently worked as a freelance writer and public relations consultant. Terrie Williams is the corporate/media planner responsible for media placement and business development. She was previously with Tenet Healthcares regional office in Dallas. Renee Dickinson moved from media relations to the health systems marketing department as writer and publications coordinator. She will oversee production for House Calls and Advantage magazines.
RESTAURANTS
The newly renamed Seabrook Island Club hired executive chef Sara Carter and pastry chef Ann McCall. Carter, formerly with Stephen Duvall Catering & Events, studied at Scottsdale Culinary Institute. McCall also worked for Stephen Duvall Catering & Events. She attended Johnson & Wales University. In addition, Kenneth Gerhardt is the new director of food and beverage, overseeing all aspects of catering and special events on the island. Previously, he was director of food and beverage at Bald Head Island Resort.
REAL ESTATE
Rose Madison-Garrett and Jeanne Snoza joined Century 21 Properties Plus Inc. as real estate agents working in the Metro North Charleston office. Snoza, a long-time Colorado resident, was the manager for several high-end retail stores in Colorado. Madison-Garrett has 20 years of real estate experience in the Lowcountry. Amy Hutchins also joined Century 21, working in the Summerville office. Previously, she was with Prudential Carolina Real Estate. Diana Campbell also will be working in Summerville as a real estate agent for Century 21. She has a bachelors degree in business administration from Wichita State in Kansas.
Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic International hired Scott Benedict as a sales agent. Benedict will specialize in office leasing and multi-family sales. He has more than 25 years of experience in the building contracting industry, specializing in historic preservation and restoration.
Mark McElheney, Sharon Hawkes, Chris Goodson, Lili Ball, Drew Johnstone and Connie Blackmon joined the Charleston office of Waterfront Properties.
Anchor Commercial Real Estate Services hired Michael Elmore. Elmore has12 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, including areas of investment grade real estate-site selection, construction management, land dev-elopment, retail, industrial, multifamily and general commercial.
FINANCIAL
Global Mortgage Group Inc. named George Clayman senior vice president-branch manager for the companys new Daniel Island mortgage origination facility. Previously, Clayman was the South Carolina account manger for Ameritrust, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.
AUTOMOTIVE
Kim Grace was promoted to accounts payable/facilities clerk in Glasspros Mount Pleasant headquarters. She will handle accounting responsibilities, including information systems and related service issues.
