Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority to implement real-time info at stops (Photo/File) The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority is in the process of constructing 24 new shelters across its coverage system, and the plan is to install real-time, automatic vehicle location software on buses and at stops that will keep users in the know. The idea is to have GPS information sent from transponder equipment on buses to an information hub. That data will then be passed to scrolling electronic boards at stops and possibly made available on the Internet and through other media.  Read More...

Free ride’s over, but Tri-County Link bus routes roll on

In its first three months, the new rural commuter service saw ridership grow in September and October but fall back in November, which officials attribute to the Thanksgiving holiday. Despite declining gas prices and the end of a three-month offer of free rides, the bus system expects the routes to keep its riders and attract new ones.
