World Trade Center board removes director
The S.C. World Trade Center has asked its executive director, Belinda Davis, to step down after the board determined she did not meet pre-established performance goals.
It may seem a little bit harsh, said board member Paul Roderique. Wed laid out some criteria, some expectations, and felt the center wasnt meeting those expectations.
Davis was the third top manager for the beleaguered organization in less than a year. A former board member herself, Davis in November replaced Lisa Callihan, who was promoted and then demoted at the organization. Five months earlier, Callihan had replaced
Mark Condon, who resigned to pursue business interests.
Davis resigned after a meeting with Chair-elect Jackie Adamson and other board members.
The boards chairman, Ken Fox, resigned in February for personal reasons.
Ours is an organization in transition, Adamson said in a statement. This is the latest in a sequence of actions since the beginning of the year taken by the board to bring stability to management and staff and clarity to our mission and priorities.
Roderique said the board is working on replacing Davis, but in the absence of an executive director, Adamson and other board members will offer guidance and support to the staff.
We have a strategy there. We do have ideas in mind, but it would be premature for me to share that, Roderique said.
Davis said she would rather not comment on her departure and referred all questions to Adamson and the board.
The S.C. World Trade Center has been struggling with faltering fundraising, rising expenses and staff changes for several years.
